We achieved a first in Turkey!

The sweetgum forest and red pine forest bats of southwestern Anatolia have been started to study with the coordinatons of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University and Çankırı Karatekin University, and partnerships of General Directorate of Forestry (Department of Köyceğiz District) and NATURA.

In the scope of the study of the habitat preferences of bats, we determined that different bats started to settle in bat boxes placed in sweetgum forests and red pine forests for the first time in Turkey.

Surveys in the region will be continued for the next 2 years, so that the activation status of bats in forest ecosystems will be examined in more detail and their activities in combating forest pests will also be evaluated.

We would like to extend our deepest thanks to the manager of Köyceğiz Flora Hotel and the Board Member of NATURA, Alp Giray, for his dedication to the organization of all these researches and for his devoted support during the field work.
